Keeping My Dog Healthy and Happy

Keeping My Dog Healthy and Happy

Your dog is happy to be with you and not outside in a yard.

All dogs want to be with their pack. Dogs are very social animals and do best when they are with their human pack. If isolated from their pack, then a variety of behavior problems can start like barking and destructive behavior including self mutilation. This is one of the benefits of apartment living. Your dog can only be inside with you, which makes the dog happiest.

Properly exercise your dog daily and provide for proper care and attention when you are away.

Is your dog OK to be left alone, or do you need a dog walker to come in during the day, or can the dog stay at doggie day care? When you get home does your dog need a long walk or a trip to the dog park?

Keep your dog clean, well groomed and flea free.

If somebody wants to pet your dog, they want to pet a clean and well-groomed dog, and they certainly don’t want to pick up fleas or mud.

Make sure your pet is spayed or neutered.

When your pet is unaltered and once they become sexually mature, your pet’s primary focus in his/her life becomes where to find their next mate. An unspayed female will attract loose males from all over the neighborhood with the scent she leaves behind, and confined males will begin to bark and howl in attempt to make contact with this female in heat. The female will make all attempts to escape from the home to find a male. When a pet is spayed or neutered than they no longer have that intense drive to breed and find a mate. They remain the same pet, but their focus switches to their pack, which are you and your family.

Also, Make sure your dog is spayed or neutered to help control potential behavior problems, improve their health and prevent overpopulation.

Your dog is happiest when he knows what to expect

This occurs when firm, fair and consistent training and leadership is part of your dog’s daily life. Maintain open communication and feedback from your dog.
